Sedona, Arizona

The city of Sedona is located in central Arizona.  It sits a little more than 100 miles north of Phoenix and about 30 miles southwest of Flagstaff.  This unique and picturesque city has a population of about 10,000.

Unquestionably, Sedona is one of the most visually stunning destinations in the United States.  Most notable is its diverse array of red sandstone formations. The formations are ubiquitous and appear to glow in brilliant orange and red when illuminated by the rising or setting sun.

Sedona is known as a spiritual center with a number of energy vortexes in the surrounding hills and valleys. Recreational attractions include hiking, rock climbing, mountain biking, and scenic drives to architecture and spiritual retreats. This area is a designated Dark Sky Community and the number of stars that are visible at night is truly spectacular.

Sedona is a very popular location for photographers.  The area often offers beautiful landscapes bathed in golden light at sunrise and sunset.  I went to Sedona as part of a photo workshop and the city and its environs did not disappoint.
