In May, 2022 I participated in a bird photography workshop in South Texas. The area is a very popular birding location because two major North American bird migratory flyways pass through there. Moreover, south Texas has some bird species that are more likely to be found in Mexico and Central America.

We photographed at two locations - the Laguna Seca and Santa Clara Ranches. Both had been working ranches, but both are now dedicated to bird photography. We photographed from blinds and the birds were attracted to perches with food - a different kind of photography for sure, but it did increase the probability of getting many species.

The trip was arranged by Tom Bol Photography. In addition to excellent photographers and workshop leaders, Cree and Tom Bol are experienced birders. They were extremely helpful both in taking images and in describing the species and behaviors of the birds we photographed.
